ENG vs IND: Uncertainty Over Bumrah’s Availability As India Resumes Practice For 2nd Test

Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was absent from training as India resumed preparations for the second Test against England. The match is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 2, in Birmingham. India held their first net session on Friday, June 27, after a short break following the first Test.

The opening Test ended on June 24, and the team quickly got back into practice mode. Reports suggest that Bumrah may be rested for the second Test as part of workload management. Prior to the series, it had already been indicated that he would feature in only three out of the five Tests.

Though speculation about his absence has circulated, there has been no official word yet, leaving fans guessing about his status. Interestingly, Bumrah was seen with the team during the training session, as reported by The Times of India.

Bumrah didn’t join the practice even though he was at the ground, adding to the uncertainty. India is 0-1 behind after losing the first Test. The rest of the team trained hard, and coach Gautam Gambhir was seen talking to Arshdeep and Akash Deep.

Bumrah Shines With 14th Test Fifer In First Match Against England

Jasprit Bumrah had been sidelined from the Indian team after sustaining an injury during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. As a result, he missed the limited-overs home series against England and the 2025 Champions Trophy. He made his return to competitive cricket in IPL 2025, rejoining the Mumbai Indians after sitting out the early matches of the season.

His comeback for the national side came in the first Test against England, where he once again delivered a standout performance. Bumrah claimed five wickets in the first innings, removing Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Josh Tongue to finish with figures of 5 for 83 in 24.4 overs.

This effort marked his 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Notably, with this achievement, Bumrah equaled the legendary Kapil Dev’s record of 12 five-wicket hauls in away Tests—the most by an Indian bowler on foreign soil.
