Indian Batter Reflects On Rishabh Pant’s Gritty Knock On Day 3 Of 3rd Test

India opener KL Rahul revealed that Rishabh Pant was in considerable discomfort while batting on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test against England. He mentioned that Pant was frustrated due to the injury restricting his ability to play freely. The wicketkeeper-batter had injured his left index finger while keeping on Day 1, forcing him to leave the field, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in behind the stumps.

Despite the injury, Pant returned to bat on Day 2 and stayed unbeaten on 19. On Day 3, he battled through pain to score 74, sharing a vital 141-run stand with KL Rahul before being run out by Ben Stokes. Speaking at the press conference after Day 3 at Lord’s, KL Rahul acknowledged that Rishabh Pant showed immense grit while batting, even though he was in pain and limited by his finger injury.

The 33-year-old stated:

“He was in a lot of pain gripping the bat. When the ball hits your bat, there’s a lot of friction and he got hit on the gloves as well a couple of times, which was not ideal. He kept telling me that he was missing out on a lot of balls that he felt should have gone for boundaries.”

“He was very disappointed with that. I just had to tell him to weigh his options and see what are the best shots he can score boundaries of rather than getting upset. He seemed pretty calm otherwise. Yeah, he was in pain, but he was more than happy and more than willing to do the job and fight for the team,” Rahul added.

Rishabh Pant Breaks Dhoni’s Milestone In Lord’s Test

Rishabh Pant has continued his impressive run with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England, breaking multiple records along the way. On Saturday, he overtook MS Dhoni to become the highest run-scorer among Indian wicketkeeper-batters in India-England Test encounters.

Dhoni had amassed 1,157 runs from 21 Tests against England. Pant, who needed just 35 runs to surpass his former captain’s tally, now has 1,197 runs from 26 innings at an impressive average of 47.88.
