India opener KL Rahul acknowledged that Rishabh Pant’s run out on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test against England was a turning point in the match. He remarked that the dismissal was unfortunate and avoidable, expressing disappointment over the way their promising partnership came to an end.
India began the day at 145/3 on Saturday, July 12, with Rahul unbeaten on 53 and Pant on 19. The duo batted confidently and extended the score to 248. However, just before lunch, Pant was run out for 74 following a sharp direct hit from Ben Stokes. A brief hesitation while attempting a quick single ultimately cost him his wicket.
Rahul, who was closing in on a century at the time, revealed that Pant was trying to rotate the strike in his favour. Reflecting on the moment during the post-day press conference, Rahul admitted they were both frustrated by the dismissal and how the innings shift unfolded from there.
“Obviously, not ideal. There was a conversation a couple of overs before. I told him that I’ll try and get my 100 if possible before lunch. With [Shoaib] Bashir bowling that last over before lunch, I thought there’s a good chance for me to get it. But unfortunately, I hit it straight to the fielder. Then, I think he just wanted to rotate the strike and see if he can put me back on strike.”

Rahul Calls Pant’s Run-Out A Turning Point
Looking back at Rishabh Pant’s dismissal right before the lunch break, KL Rahul acknowledged that it turned the tide of the game. The 33-year-old remarked:
“It shouldn’t have happened. Run out at that stage really changed the momentum and was disappointing for both of us. Obviously, nobody wants to throw their wicket like that.”
Rahul headed into the lunch break on Day 3 at Lord’s unbeaten on 98. He brought up his century shortly after the second session began but was dismissed soon after, departing for exactly 100. The Indian opener edged a loose shot to the slip cordon off Shoaib Bashir’s bowling.
