Gautam Gambhir Speaks On Jasprit Bumrah’s Availability For The 5th ENG vs IND Test

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has said that no final call has been made regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. He did confirm, however, that all pacers in the squad are currently fit and available.

Before the series began, both Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill had stated that Bumrah would feature in only three Tests to manage his workload and fitness. However, with the series on the line, India may be compelled to reconsider that plan. Following a spirited batting performance that helped India draw the fourth Test in Manchester, the team remains 1-2 behind in the series.

A win in the final Test is crucial to level the contest. During the post-match press conference on July 27, Gambhir was asked about Bumrah’s availability. He responded without revealing much:

“There has been no talk about it. No decision has been taken as to whether Jasprit Bumrah will play the last Test match or not. Ultimately, whoever plays will try and do the job for the team.”

However, the former Indian opener clarified that all the pace bowlers are fully fit and available for selection ahead of the final Test against England. He stated:

“All the fast bowlers are fit. There is no injury scare.”

Jasprit Bumrah shares second spot on 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy wicket charts

Although Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the second Test at Edgbaston, he still holds the joint-second spot among the top wicket-takers in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The right-arm pacer has taken 14 wickets in five innings at an impressive average of 26, including two five-wicket hauls—one each in the opening Test at Leeds and the third Test at Lord’s.

Mohammed Siraj has also taken 14 wickets but has featured in all four matches. His wickets have come at a higher average of 39.71. In terms of workload, Siraj has bowled 139 overs in the series, while Bumrah has delivered 119.4 overs.
