The Gabba in Brisbane will host the fifth and final T20I between India and Australia on Saturday, November 8. India currently lead the five-match series 2-1. The first T20I in Canberra was washed out due to rain, while Australia secured their only win in the second match at Melbourne.
However, the Men in Blue bounced back strongly, clinching back-to-back victories in Hobart and Queensland to gain the upper hand in the series. Interestingly, India last played a T20I at the Gabba on November 21, 2018, during a bilateral series. That encounter was reduced to 17 overs per side owing to persistent rain on the match day.
After being put in to bat, Australia posted 158/4 in 17 overs, courtesy of solid contributions from Glenn Maxwell (46), Chris Lynn (37), Marcus Stoinis (33), and Aaron Finch (27). Among the Indian bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav stood out with impressive figures of 2/24. Due to rain interruptions, the DLS method adjusted India’s target to 174 runs in 17 overs.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan provided a strong start with a fluent 76, setting a solid foundation for the chase. However, India stumbled in the middle overs, slipping to 105/4 in 11.4 overs. Later, Dinesh Karthik (30) and Rishabh Pant (20) offered brief resistance and kept India’s hopes alive, but the visitors eventually fell short by five runs.
Adam Zampa was the standout performer for Australia with the ball, delivering an economical spell of 4-0-22-2, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
Team India’s Overall T20I Record On Australian Soil
Team India have enjoyed a fairly good run in T20Is on Australian soil. Out of 22 matches played Down Under, they have registered 13 victories and suffered seven defeats, with two games ending without a result. Among these, 16 matches were against Australia, where India emerged victorious nine times, while the hosts won five, and two were washed out.
Having lost the ODI series earlier, India will be determined to bounce back by winning the T20I series. A victory in the fifth and final T20I on Saturday would help them secure the series and wrap up the tour on a high note.
