Jasprit Bumrah On The Verge Of Creating A Historic Record

Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is on the brink of etching his name into cricket’s record books as he stands just one wicket away from reaching the 100-wicket milestone in T20 Internationals. If he manages to pick up a wicket in the final T20I against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday, Bumrah will become only the second Indian bowler to achieve the feat after Arshdeep Singh, who currently has 105 wickets in 67 matches.

Moreover, he would become the first Indian cricketer to claim 100 or more wickets across all three formats of the game—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is—marking an extraordinary all-round bowling record. India currently leads the five-match series 2-1, and all eyes will be on Bumrah as he looks to script this special chapter in his illustrious career.

Stellar T20I Record Reflects Consistency

Since his debut, Bumrah has been a game-changer for India in the shortest format. In 79 T20Is, the 30-year-old pacer has picked up 99 wickets in 77 innings at a remarkable average of 18.11 and an economy rate of 6.36—among the best in world cricket. His best bowling figures of 3/7 underline his ability to deliver in crunch situations.

In the ongoing T20I series against Australia, Bumrah has taken three wickets in three matches with an economy rate of 6.58 and best figures of 2/26. Despite playing fewer games due to workload management and injuries in recent years, his numbers reflect unmatched consistency and control, making him one of the most reliable death bowlers in international cricket.

A Record Across Formats

Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance isn’t confined to T20Is alone. In 50 Test matches, he has scalped 226 wickets at a stunning average of 19.83, including ten five-wicket hauls and best figures of 6/27. He currently sits as India’s 12th-highest wicket-taker in the format, a remarkable feat considering his late entry into Test cricket. In One-Day Internationals, Bumrah has claimed 149 wickets in 89 matches at an average of 23.55, with best figures of 6/19 and two five-wicket hauls to his name.

Should he achieve the 100-wicket mark in T20Is, Bumrah would become the first Indian to achieve a century of wickets in all three formats—a rare accomplishment that highlights his adaptability and dominance across conditions and formats. India’s squad for the Brisbane clash remains strong, led by Suryakumar Yadav, while Australia, captained by Mitchell Marsh, will aim to level the series. All eyes, however, will be on Bumrah as he aims to make history.
