Team India bowling coach Morne Morkel addressed the ongoing selection dilemma surrounding Arshdeep Singh, who has found it tough to secure a spot in the T20I playing XI despite his impressive track record. The left-arm pacer made a strong comeback in the third T20I against Australia in Hobart, earning the Player of the Match award for his match-winning spell.

Arshdeep has frequently remained on the sidelines as India opted for additional batting depth and a three-spinner combination in recent matches. During the 2025 Asia Cup, he featured only occasionally, with Hardik Pandya often serving as the second fast bowler to suit subcontinent conditions.

However, the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is proved his worth once again in the third match of the series. Replacing Harshit Rana in the lineup, Arshdeep delivered a brilliant spell, dismissing Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis, and Josh Inglis to finish with figures of 3 for 35.

“There Will Always Be Disappointment” – Morne Morkel On Arshdeep Singh’s Selection Scenario

Morne Morkel emphasized that the team fully recognizes Arshdeep Singh’s value and contributions. He added that the left-arm pacer is being kept informed about his position within the setup as the management continues to work on identifying the ideal team combination.

“There will always be disappointment in terms of players with selection but that is something at times, as a player is uncontrollable. From our side, we just keep on asking them to work hard and train hard, and be ready for when they do get the opportunity.”

“There are limited games leading into the T20 World Cup. It is important for us to see how guys react in certain situations under pressure,” Morne Morkel said during the pre-match press conference in Gold Coast (via RevSportz).

“I think Arshdeep is experienced. He understands that, you know, that there is also a bigger picture where we are trying different combinations. He knows he is a world class bowler, he has taken the most wickets for us in the powerplay. We know how valuable he is to the team,” Morkel added.
