Team India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has indicated that the players are unlikely to have a training session on the eve of the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. He noted that, due to the quick turnaround, the emphasis will be on rest and mental preparation ahead of the crucial clash.
India endured a taxing Super Over contest against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Friday, September 26. Both sides finished their 20 overs at 202-5, with the Men in Blue ultimately emerging victorious in the Super Over. With only a single day’s break, India now prepare to take on Pakistan in the final on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference after India’s thrilling Super Over win, Morkel was questioned about the team’s recovery plan ahead of the title match. He stated:
“I don’t think there will be any training tomorrow. The boys are already in the ice box and their recovery has sort of started straightaway after the game. The best way to recover is to sleep and stay off your feet. Hopefully, they can all get a good night’s sleep tonight.”
“I am sure there will be an individual pool session for the guys tomorrow. From there, it is just about getting massages and getting mentally ready for the battle on Sunday,” the former South African fast bowler added.
“We Haven’t Played Our Complete Game”- India Bowling Coach Admits
Team India remain unbeaten in the Asia Cup 2025, having won all three of their group-stage matches. Before their Super Over triumph against Sri Lanka, they had also secured victories over Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage. However, Morne Morkel acknowledged that the team has yet to deliver a fully rounded performance and still needs to strengthen all areas of their game. The 40-year-old remarked:
“I don’t think, in this tournament so far, we have played the complete game. After every game, there have been discussions on areas we would like to improve. Under pressure, we need to get sharper. The boys have skills; they have played a lot of white-ball cricket. At the end of the day, we can have all plans, but we still need to execute.”
