[WATCH]: IND vs SA – Jasprit Bumrah Dismisses Ryan Rickelton With A Stunning Delivery
Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, leading India’s pace attack, provided the team with their first breakthrough by removing Ryan Rickelton on Day 1 of the opening Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The 31-year-old produced a brilliant delivery that beat the Proteas opener and hit the off-stump.

The wicket came in the 11th over, with captain Shubman Gill handing Bumrah his sixth straight over. Bowling from around the wicket, Bumrah delivered a ball that angled in and deviated slightly, causing Rickelton to miss as he played down the wrong line. The Indian players celebrated immediately as the left-hander departed for 23.

The ex–No.1 Test pacer struck once more, removing Aiden Markram in his seventh over. Extra bounce made the right-hander poke at the delivery, sending an edge through to the wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant completed a full-stretch diving catch behind the stumps, ending Markram’s innings on 31 from 48 balls.

Earlier in the day, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided his team would bat. The visitors suffered an immediate setback when lead fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was ruled out with a rib issue, opening the door for Corbin Bosch to join the playing XI.

Their two frontline spinners for the contest are Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer, forming the spin attack for the reigning WTC holders. In contrast, India selected four dedicated spinners—Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar.

South Africa entered this Test after drawing 1-1 in Pakistan, while India arrived with confidence following a complete sweep over the West Indies in their previous series.
