Kuldeep Yadav claimed the key wicket of Dewald Brevis at an important moment in the second ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The left-arm wrist-spinner dismissed the in-form Brevis for 54 off 34 deliveries, right after he was hit for a six on the previous ball.
This wicket also ended the 92-run fourth-wicket stand between Brevis and Matthew Breetzke. The breakthrough arrived in the 41st over of South Africa’s chase. Kuldeep delivered a tossed-up ball on the middle and leg line, and Brevis attempted another big shot, but the ball travelled higher rather than farther.
Yashasvi Jaiswal positioned himself perfectly at long-on and completed a safe catch. Despite hitting four sixes in his aggressive innings, Brevis continued to attack and paid the price for not slowing down. You can watch the video here:

Dewald Brevis had earlier made 37 runs from 28 deliveries in the first ODI.
“He Struggles To Get Out Of 5th Gear” – AB de Villiers On Brevis’ Batting Flaw
Former South African captain AB de Villiers highlighted a key weakness in Dewald Brevis’s batting technique. The former player and analyst advised Brevis to balance his aggressive approach with more caution. He made these remarks during the ODI series between Australia and South Africa in August 2025 (via Sportskeeda):
“Brevis, I mean, when he gets going, it is just wonderful to watch. He strikes fear into all bowling attacks, and that’s the kind of player you want in your team, but that is also an area of concern for me where he struggles to sort of get out of that fifth gear back to third and fourth, just to sort of learn to control the game better. I think it’s going to be very important for him moving forward.”
“Understanding the change of gears and when to take the foot off the pedal a little bit. But obviously, a natural ball striker. He strikes fear into all bowling attacks, and that’s the kind of player you want in your team,” De Villiers added.
