The Jaipur crowd erupted as Rohit Sharma unleashed a magnificent pull shot for six off just his second delivery during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 clash against Sikkim on Wednesday, December 24. A video shared on X showed the former India skipper receiving a thunderous reception from the packed stands at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The Mumbai batter was featuring in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time since 2018, when he played the semi final against Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Prior to Mumbai’s opening match of the season, Rohit had scored 581 runs in 18 tournament appearances, averaging 38.73, with one hundred and three half centuries to his name.

Mumbai skipper Shardul Thakur, after losing the toss, led from the front with a tight and controlled bowling effort. He returned impressive figures of 6 overs, 19 runs and 2 wickets as Mumbai limited Sikkim to 236 for 7 in their 50 overs. Tanush Kotian, Tushar Deshpande, Shams Mulani and Musheer Khan also contributed with a wicket apiece.
For Sikkim, Ashish Thapa was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 79 from 87 balls. He received support from K Sai Satwik and Kranthi Kumar, who made 34 each, while Robin Limboo added 31 to keep the innings steady.
Rohit Sharma Powers Mumbai Toward Victory Against Sikkim
At the time of reporting, openers Rohit Sharma and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have given Mumbai a solid start in their chase of 237. The team stands at 98 without loss after 15 overs, with Rohit striking a quick 69 off 45 balls and Raghuvanshi playing a measured 26 from 46 deliveries.
Rohit has been in outstanding form in recent months, beginning with the Australia tour. Despite starting the series with a low score, he bounced back with innings of 73 and an unbeaten 121, scoring a total of 202 runs in three matches and earning the Player of the Series award.
The seasoned batter entered the home series against South Africa as the world’s No.1 ODI batter and retains that spot after recording two half-centuries. His next appearance for India will be in the ODI series against New Zealand, starting January 11 in Vadodara.
