A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to almost seal the deal of hosting the upcoming India-England series in the UAE.
If reports are true, Khalid Al Zarooni, the vice president of the ECB, and Mubashshir Usmani, its general secretary, met with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI President, at Dubai Sports City ahead of the start of the IPL to discuss the proposed event. The prospects of the meeting look fruitful.
India-England Series to take place in the UAE
“I along with vice-chairman of the ECB, Mr Khalid Al Zarooni, signed an MoU and hosting agreement between [the BCCI] and [ECB], to boost cricketing ties between our countries,” Shah wrote on social media.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly spoke about his commitment of hosting the India- England series back in August. “The BCCI and the Indian cricket team will continue to fulfill its FTP commitments,” Ganguly said last month.
“The senior Indian men’s team will travel to Australia in December this year and will come back to the country for a series against England starting from February next year” the BCCI boss further added.

According to ICC’s Future Tours Programme Schedule, the India-England series is to take place on either side of the Australia tour between October 2020 and February 2021.
The India-England series which was planned to be played in India now seems tough with the country’s growing concerns over coronavirus. The BCCI, therefore, selected the UAE as an alternate venue.
Meanwhile, UAE is gearing up to host the IPL 2020. This is the second time that IPL is taking place in the UAE. Previously in 2014, UAE hosted the first leg of IPL with Kolkata knight Riders emerging the title winners. The first match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will take place in Abu Dhabi on September 19.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all government entities and parties involved in their tireless efforts and diligence in applying the highest global safety standards to ensure the tournament takes place in a safe and secure environment,” Sheikh Nahyan, the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said.
