Varun Chakravarthy was yesterday playing in IPL 2020 when team India for Australian tour was announced. The skilled spinner would have got a pleasant wonderment after he was named in India’s T20I squad. As expected Twitter erupted and hailed Chakravarthy’s rise that made him part of the men in blue. In the ongoing IPL season, Chakravarthy has made a massive difference since becoming a permanent feature in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad.
It was the game against Delhi Capitals when the world saw his bag full of tricks. Chakravarthy registered a 5 wicket haul and became only the second KKR bowler to achieve this rear feat in IPL history. The India selectors were certainly impressed with this performance of Chakravarthy and gave him his maiden India call up.

Varun Chakravarthy is no stranger to T20 cricket as not only in IPL he was incredible even in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. He has been remarkably consistent with his performances and has even overshadowed Sunil Narine in this IPL. Fittingly the unorthodox spinner is the leading wicket-taker of KKR in IPL 2020.
In 11 matches this season he has scalped 13 wickets at an average of 24 but most importantly, his economy rate has just been 7.18. This proves that Chakravarthy is an ideal T20 spinner who not only picks wickets but also keeps a check on the scoring rate.
Meanwhile, after he was added in India’s T20 squad for Australia he received praises from all quarters. From Sunil Gavaskar to Harsha Bhogle and several experts were all cheers for the new India spinner.
“Chakravarthy is there not just for his five-for but the way he has bowled throughout the entire tournament. He has not given so many runs, he has picked up wickets at crucial times in the middle overs. He has not allowed the batsmen to settle down against him at all. Clearly, a reward for some fine performances in the IPL’, said Gavaskar.
