The Coronavirus Disease has yet again led to the postponement of a scheduled cricketing activity as the 2nd ODI between Ireland and UAE has been postponed after a player in the UAE camp tested positive for COVID-19. The player tested positive is 18-year-old Alishan Sharafu who was tested positive earlier today.

This isn’t the first case in the UAE camp as prior to the series began, two UAE players namely Chirag Suri and Aryan Lakra tested positive On 7th and 8th January respectively. Despite Aryan Lakra testing positive on the eve of the first ODI, the match still went ahead in Abu Dhabi.

Alishan Sharafu Third UAE Player To Test Positive After Aryan Lakra and Chirag Suri

After Aryan Lakra and Chirag Suri were tested positive, both players were isolated in their rooms. The tracing application data was also taken into account for review but no close contacts were traced. According to a statement released by Emirates Cricket Board, the isolated players remained in their hotel rooms until the directives were received from the Health authorities to move the players to an official isolation center.

Alishan Sharafu was tested positive after the mandatory COVID-19 tests were carried out on 9th January following a seventh test which was carried out a day prior on 8th January. Sharafu’s test came back positive and was immediately isolated in his hotel room in Abu Dhabi. Now just like Lakra and Suri, Sharafu will be transferred medical isolation facility after receiving further directives from the health authorities.

The decision to postpone the 2nd ODI was taken after both Emirates Cricket Board and Cricket Ireland decided in the best interests of all players and support staff involved to reschedule the match to be played on 10th January 2021 to 16th January 2021.

Revised Schedule of UAE vs Ireland:

12th January – 2nd ODI

14th January – 3rd ODI

16th January – 4th ODI

The first ODI of the series was won by UAE as they defeated visitors Ireland by 6 wickets after CP Rizwan and Mohammed Usman struck their maiden ODI hundreds while sharing a 184-run stand in UAE’s chase of 270.
