Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke is baffled to see the current limited-overs skipper of Australia go unsold in the IPL 2021 auction. Aaron Finch who had the base price set at 1 crore found zero buyers at the event in Chennai as the Australian T20 skipper remained unsold.
During IPL 2020, Aaron Finch represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore wherein he managed to score just 268 runs in 12 matches including just one fifty. In the past, Finch has played for a variety of IPL sides, starting with the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

Don’t tell me Aaron Finch is not good enough – Michael Clarke
Just like every other Australian, Michael Clarke is visibly upset with The T20 skipper of their national side going unsold in the IPL auction. Clarke believes it is just not possible that you captain the national side and don’t get picked for a side in the IPL.
“Are the Australian selectors wrong in Aaron Finch being our Twenty20 captain or is every IPL franchise wrong? I can’t believe this. The Australian Twenty20 captain has not been bought. Someone is wrong. In no sport on the planet can you captain Australia and miss out on a tournament with a truckload of teams. Don’t tell me Aaron Finch is not good enough to be a part of one of those IPL teams,” Clarke added.
Furthermore, Michael Clarke deemed Aaron Finch to be one of the best in the world and still ranks as one of the topmost batsmen in the shortest format of the game.
“I cannot believe Finchy hasn’t been picked up. Even for Finchy, that’s got to hurt as the Australian T20 captain. I think he’s still, definitely at the top of the order, one of the best in the world.”

Steve Smith Might Back Out Of IPL 2021
The former Aussie skipper also put forward his thoughts on Steve Smith getting picked for a mere sum of ₹ 2.2 crores by the Delhi Capitals. Steve Smith was released from the Rajasthan Royals after an association of more than 6 years. In 2020, Steve Smith was retained by the Royals for a sum of ₹ 12.5 crores and was also announced as the side’s full-time skipper.
“You talk about Steve Smith – if he’s not the best batsman in the world, he’s not far away. Virat Kohli is number one, but Smithy is in the top three,” he said.
“I know his T20 performances haven’t been as good as he would have like – last year’s IPL he wasn’t great. I’m very surprised he has gone for the amount of money he has, just under $400,000 – which is still good money. But when you look at what he was getting (last season) and his role as captain of Rajasthan, don’t be surprised if there’s a little hamstring strain the day the plane is meant to fly to India.
