Robin Uthappa was drafted by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2021 player auction from Rajasthan Royals. The experienced batsman is looking forward to linking up with MS Dhoni and playing his first season for the Men in Yellow. He has played for several IPL franchises in the past and looking forward to a new season with CSK. He is among the very few batsmen with over 4000 runs in the IPL.
In an interactive session with ESPN Cricinfo, Robin Uthappa opened on his preparations for the upcoming IPL season. Among the various points he touched upon, he said that he is looking forward to becoming the first batsman to score 1000 runs in an IPL season. “To be the first guy to score 1000 runs in a season,” said Uthappa.

Virat Kohli with 973 runs in IPL 2016 holds the record for hitting the most runs in an IPL season. Kohli hit four centuries in that season to get to that milestone. Before that, he had no centuries and in 2016 alone he hit four.
The Karnataka batsman won the Orange Cap in IPL 2014 when he scored 660 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR won their second IPL title that season, Meanwhile, this season, Uthappa is looking for a contest against Mumbai Indians, who he believes is the toughest team in the competition.
“Mumbai Indians. I think Mumbai Indians is the team that I would be looking to play against and doing well. They are a formidable side. Playing them and beating them would send a message across the board that we mean business,” said Robin Uthappa.
Uthappa scored close to 400 runs in the recently completed Vijay Hazare Trophy for Karnataka. He has joined a CSK outfit that is packed with experience with the likes of Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Cheteshwar Pujara. Uthappa concluded by saying that he is looking to help his team win as many games as possible.
