The WTC Final is just around the corner. The top 2 teams in Test cricket, India and New Zealand, will lock horns from June 18 in an intriguing clash at the Ageas Rose Bowl in Southampton.
The Black Caps are engaged in a two-match Test series against England currently. The first one of those ended in a draw at Lord’s, following Devon Conway’s double hundred on debut. The second one is slated to start on June 10 at Edgbaston. On the other hand, India arrived in the UK on June 3 and is residing at the Hilton.
With a lot of build-up going on around the marquee event, the cricketing fraternity is indulged in making predictions be it the winners or the top-scorers. A few former cricketers, in a recent chat show on Star Sports, picked the latter.
Kohli would want to be the man to stand up for India – Ajit Agarkar
The last time India toured England, Kohli finished as the top scorer. He amassed 573 runs studded with 2 centuries in what was a redemption tour for him of sorts. Ajit Agarkar, who has been following the team closely, picked Kohli to be the top scorer in the WTC Final.
He opined that Kohli is India’s go-to man in difficult conditions and believed the skipper would want to stand up for his country when needed.
“I am going to go with Virat Kohli, actually. I think he has shown us what he could do in England, the second time he toured, even under difficult conditions. He’d want to be the man to stand up for India.”
Parthiv Patel went with India’s Wall 2.0, Cheteshwar Pujara. His ability to bat for a long period of time and wear the bowlers out was Parthiv’s reasoning.
“I will back Pujara to be the highest scorer in this Test match. If India has to win, I think Pujara is going to be the key player. If India loses an early wicket, and he goes on to bat for say three-four hours in this Test match, I think India will be in a very good position.”
Irfan Pathan had a pretty straightforward answer. He had no hesitations in picking Kane Williamson.
“I think Kane Williamson will be the highest scorer,” Pathan said.
Scott Styris made a surprising yet bold prediction. He favored Devon Conway to be the highest run-getter.
“Of course it is going to be a New Zealander, Kane Williamson or Devon Conway. I am going to go away from king Kane, Devon Conway,” he said.
