T20 World Cup 2021: Mega Event To Be Played In UAE And Oman, Confirms ICC

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has been shifted to United Arab and Emirates and Oman. The International Cricket Council has confirmed the switch on June 29, the major reason behind shifting the tournament from India is the horrible second wave of coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Although the T20 World Cup will not be held in India, BCCI will remain the host of the tournament. Speaking about the development, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice said that their main intention is to complete the tournament safely in this window.

“Our priority is to deliver the ICC Men’s T20 WC 2021 safely, in full, and in its current window,” said acting ICC CEO Geoff Allardice. “Whilst we are incredibly disappointed not to be hosting the event in India, the decision gives us the certainty we need to stage the event in a country that is a proven international host of multi-team events in a bio-secure environment.

“The BCCI is looking forward to hosting the ICC Men’s T20 WC 2021 tournament in UAE and Oman,” said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. “We would have been happier hosting it in India but considering the uncertainty due to the COVID-19 situation and the importance of a world championship, the BCCI will now continue to host this tournament in UAE and Oman.”

Four major venues have been finalized by the International cricket council. In the United Arab Emirates three stadiums including, Dubai International Stadium, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Stadium, and in Oman, the Oman Cricket Academy Ground. These are four confirmed venues for the upcoming World Cup. Also before the World Cup, the remaining half of the Indian Premier League will be played on the UAE venues.
