Team India have received a big blow ahead of the start of the five-match Test series against England. After Avesh Khan and Shubman Gill, now Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the Test series with a finger injury. Avesh fractured a finger of his bowling arm and was ruled out while Gill was ruled out due to a shin injury. Both Gill and Sundar was a part of the Indian Test team which beat Australia in Australia.
Meanwhile, Washington Sundar’s extent of the injury is yet to be understood while this is certain that he is injured enough to not be able to play in the Test series. Thus the Indian team has been badly hit by injuries even before the Test series has started. Gill had been ruled out two weeks ago due to shin splints and has already returned home.

Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan both played the practice game against Combined County XI in Durham. The ECB was unable to field a proper XI and upon requesting the BCCI designated two players who would play for the County XI.
With Washinton Sundar injured, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are the only two specialist all-rounders left in the squad. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has just joined the side after recovering from COVID after his recent test. He joined the team in Durham on Wednesday after finishing his quarantine in London.
“He was asymptomatic and absolutely fine. But the protocols are very clear. So, what happens if a scenario like England (players testing positive during series against Sri Lanka) repeats itself in the Team India camp? Where does the team get replacements from?”
Meanwhile, sources close to the Indian team have said that with the number of COVID cases on the rise, other players from the Indian team are also at risk of getting affected.
On the other hand, England have announced their squad for the first two Tests with their Test regulars back in the squad.
