The India vs Sri Lanka T20I series started on Sunday 25 July 2021 at RPS Colombo. Notably, India entered the series after winning the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka once again won the toss in the series making it their 3rd toss win. They decided to field first and invited Indians to bat first. However, batting first India faced a major breakthrough in the first over itself. The star opener Prithvi Shaw got dismissed in the first ball of his T20I career. This was definitely not the start Prithvi Shaw was expecting.

Prithvi Shaw had a great outing in the One Day International series against Sri Lanka. Also for his amazing run in the ODI format, he was provided the opening slot with Shikhar Dhawan in the 1st T20I. However, Prithvi Shaw got out on the first delivery of the match. The Sri Lankan bowler Dushmantha Chameera bowled a beautiful outswinger to Shaw. Adding to it Prithvi Shaw was only able to edge with the bat and the ball directly reached wicketkeeper Minod Bhanuka.

Notably, this was his debut innings for Prithvi Shaw, he had already represented India in ODIs and Test before playing his 1st T20I game. Shaw became the only second Indian opener to get out on the first ball of the T20I inning after KL Rahul.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw had an amazing run in the One Day International series. Shaw scored 40+ runs twice in the series. Although he was unable to score a half-century, his highest score being 49. Notably, he even won the man of the match award in the first ODI match.

However, he was unable to replicate his first ODI performance in the first T20I. As a result, he was massively trolled on social media.

Here are some Twitter reactions to Prithvi Shaw’s duck in the first T20I
