The tradition of ringing the five-minute bell at the Lord’s Cricket Ground by an international cricketer, administrator, or well-known enthusiast of the sport was introduced in 2007. The first occasion took place during the West Indies tour of England in 2007. The bell is located outside the Bowlers’ Bar of the Lord’s Pavilion.
On the opening day of the ongoing test match, former England star Enid Bakewell rung the bell. Andrew Strauss led the ceremonial bell ring on day two to mark the ‘Red for Ruth’ day, while former India cricketer Farokh Engineer did the honors on day three.
England takes the first-innings lead
England took the first-innings lead on day three of the second test match against India at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Skipper Joe Root slammed an unbeaten 180 to help his side take a 25 runs lead. He partnered with Jonny Bairstow to put on a 120 runs partnership for the fourth wicket stand when the team was in a spot of bother.
Jonny Bairstow contributed 57 runs off 107 deliveries, while opener Rory Burns missed out on his fifty by just one run. For India, Mohammed Siraj picked up a five-wicket haul. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will resume the play on day four on Sunday.
