Like a true teammate, Rishabh Pant has come out in support of Mohammed Siraj who was involved in a banter with the England fans. The Indians did not have a day to remember at Headingley on day 1. Seeing the visitors on the backfoot, a section of the England fans tried booing Mohammed Siraj and he responded perfectly.
Meanwhile, Pant revealed in the press conference that the incident made Indian skipper Virat Kohli very upset. “I think, somebody threw a ball inside, at Siraj, so he [Kohli] was upset,” said Pant in a virtual press conference after the close of the first day’s play.
He further said that the England fans can say whatever they want but should not throw things at Indian fielders.

“You can say whatever you want to chant, but don’t throw things at the fielders and all those things. It is not good for cricket, I guess,” he added.

Mohammed Siraj was seen signaling the crowd who were trying to bully him. He said to the crowd that it was India who were leading the series and that the home team was trailing. Indian skipper Virat Kohli saw the interaction unfold from the slip cordon and did not enjoy it any bit. He was seen shaking his head at the behaviour of the England crowd. The Hyderabad pacer bowled a spell of 7 overs giving away 26 runs.
Pant during his press conference also back Virat Kohli’s decision to bat first after he won the toss. This was the first time he won the toss in the series.
“Whatever decision we take, we take as a team.So once we have decided we are going to bat first, we are going to back our decision. Yes, we could have applied much better but we can’t keep on thinking too much about the toss” said Pant.
