South African ODI squad for the Sri Lankan tour has been announced today. This will be the first outing for “Faf” led squad sans AB de Villiers.
The squad includes the likes of Amla, Duminy and Quinton de Kock. However, Temba Bavuma who showed promising signs of cricket hasn”t found a place. The middle order will hugely depend on Miller and Heinrich Klaasen and their partnerships will play a crucial role in clinching the victories.
Test specialists Philander and Steyn haven”t been named in the limited overs but convener Linda Zondi said that they will surely be under the scanner for the 2019 World cup.
“We are looking to broaden our talent pool. Conditions in England are likely to be very different from those in Sri Lanka. We will be trying a lot of combinations before the World Cup,” said Linda Zondi, the national selection convener.
Shamsi and Maharaj who booked their berths in test squad last week are back to the Green and yellow. It will be a huge responsibility on them to fill the boots of Imran Tahir.
The series includes five ODI matches played across three venues. It will be really interesting how the absence of “Superman” will impact the ODI squad.
