Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRG) in a nail-biting match with the help of last over heroics from Rashid Khan. However, the brilliant batting effort from SRH opener Abhishek Sharma caught the attention of many legendary former cricketers.
Abhishek scored 65 runs in 42 balls at an impactful strike rate of 155. He also took on Rashid Khan which is a very difficult thing to do in T20 Cricket. Former RCB captain Daniel Vettori is one of them who is highly impressed with the talent and performance of Abhishek Sharma.
Daniel Vettori said that he sees a bit of Chris Gayle in Abhishek Sharma. Vettori hailed the calmness of Abhishek Sharma while batting in pressure situations. He also appreciated Abhishek Sharma for reading the length of Rashid Khan really well.
“There was a calmness to the way he played. And it felt like he picked up the length. You talk about the great players and their ability to pick up the length, and as soon as Rashid Khan got slightly full, he latched onto it. I think he hit him for three sixes. Chris Gayle or Suresh Raina have had similar sort of results against him and not many others, and it was through that style of being able to reach the ball” said Vettori on ESPNcricinfo’s T20 Time Out show.
I was really excited when SRH gave me an opening position – Abhishek Sharma
After a couple of underwhelming performances in the middle order, the cricketer from Punjab was promoted to open the innings, an opportunity Abhishek has grabbed with both hands. The youngster thanked the SRH management for giving him the opportunity.
“I am feeling really good for contributing for my team and I was enjoying my shots. I think I always wanted to play in this position for any of my teams and I was just waiting for my opportunity. When they decided to give me opening for SRH, I was really excited.” said Abhishek Sharma.
Abhishek Sharma has been in amazing form in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Abhishek has scored 285 runs in eight innings at an average of 36 and strike rate of 132. He has scored two fifty-plus scores so far this season.
