Delhi Capitals batter Sarfaraz Khan has credited his father and coach Naushad Khan for his success in the last few years. The opener slammed a brisk 32 runs knock against the Punjab Kings on Monday at the DY Patil Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season.

Over the last couple of years, Sarafaz Khan has been pilling up runs in domestic cricket for Mumbai. He averages 137.75 in three matches, scoring 551 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2022 season. The right-hander is the third leading run-getter in the tournament. Following his outstanding run, the Delhi Capitals signed Sarfaraz for 20 lakhs at the auctions.
The 24-year-old hasn’t got a consistent run in the tournament. However, he has done well in the limited opportunities. Sarfaraz was given a chance to open the innings against Punjab Kings, and he grabbed it with both hands. In a video shared by the Delhi Capitals on their social media handle, the flamboyant batter has credited his father for his success. He said:
“Whatever I’m today, it’s because of him. He has spent a lot of time training me and used to drive 2500-2600 km from Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh. He took me to all the places where there are grounds from the MP, Ghaziabad, and Mathura to Delhi. We used to stop in between and play matches.”
“But the time we reached our village in UP, it was lockdown. Again, when we returned to Mumbai, we used to stop in between and play matches. So, all the credit goes to him. If he wasn’t there, I wouldn’t have been here as well. I would have worked somewhere else,” added Sarfaraz.

Wouldn’t have been happy with my runs, if the team didn’t win: Sarfaraz Khan

The Delhi Capitals managed to score 159 runs in the first innings on the back of Mitchell Marsh and Sarfaraz Khan’s valuable contributions. Marsh scored 63 runs off 48 balls. In reply, the Punjab Kings failed to chase down the target, handing a 17 runs victory to the Delhi Capitals.
“I wouldn’t have been happy with my runs if the team didn’t end up winning. It would have been like getting out on a duck. The mood in the camp is also good after the win and we are still in the running for a playoff berth. We just need to play one good game to qualify,” said Sarfaraz Khan.
The Delhi Capitals will take on the Mumbai Indians in their final league match on May 21 at the Wankhede Stadium. A win will see them through to the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2022 season.
