India defeated Sri Lankaby 34 runs in the first T20I match of the three-match series on Thursday. Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma took an amazing catch in the series-opener, which caught the attention of cricket fans.
Deepti surprised everyone with her athleticism on the field. In the seventh over of the run chase, Harshitha Madavi played a pull shot towards deep backward square. She couldn’t time the ball properly. Deepti Sharma ran a few metres and dived forward to take the catch, which at one point looked impossible.

Usually Indian women cricketers are considered slow fielders in the field. In the past they have dropped several easy catches. However, Deepti Sharma took a brilliant catch to show that the women’s team is also progressing in their athleticism on the field.
Speaking of the game, India posted 138 runs after batting first, thanks to some useful contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues (36*), Harmanpreet Kaur (22) and Shafali Verma (31).
“Credit goes to all players for the belief” – India captain credits team effort for the victory
The Indian women’s team successfully defended the total of 138 runs. Radha Yadav picked up two crucial wickets. The other bowlers were economical as well and kept things tight from both ends.Â
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur in the post match presentation said,” I think credit goes to all the players for the belief and the way Jemi batted and later on the bowlers did the job for us. As a unit we always want to utilize the first six overs and apart from that it went according to plan. We are really enjoying our time here and good to see people come and watch us play here.”
