Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria feels Virat Kohli is becoming a liability for the Indian team. The former Indian skipper made a comeback to the Indian T20I team after four months, on Saturday, July 9 against England. However, his struggle to find form at the international level continued. Virat Kohli got out cheaply in the second T20I by debutant Richard Gleeson.
The 34-year-old was rested for the first T20I against England. He replaced in-form batter Deepak Hooda in the playing XI for the next game. Kohli tried to start his innings on an aggressive note, taking on the English bowlers. However, his attempt did not pay off well as he got out for one run.
In the sixth over, Virat Kohli looked to take on debutant Richard Gleeson. However, the ball took the top edge and Dawid Malan took a great catch around the backward point region to dismiss the Indian cricketer. Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria expressed that due to Kohli’s consistent failures, he is becoming a liability for the Indian team.
“When the big guns were out, even then the team was performing, the youngsters were doing the job. The big player should understand that he is becoming a liability to the team. Virat Kohli has become a liability now. So, either he needs to give up his place or make a comeback before the T20 World Cup,” said Kaneria in a video on his Youtube channel.
India takes an unassailable lead of 2-0 against England
The Indian team registered a 49-run victory against England in the second T20I on Saturday, July 9 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. They bowled England out for the second time in as many matches in the series. Rohit Sharma-led team now has an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match T20I series.
Batting first, India set England a target of 171 runs, on the back of Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 46. In reply, England got all out for 121 in seventeen overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance with the ball. He took 3//15 in his three overs, conceding runs at an economy rate of 5.
The third T20I match between India and England will take place on Sunday, July 10. The Trent Bridge in Nottingham will host the final match of the series.
