Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been on the receiving end after he was dismissed for just 11(9) runs in the first T20I against Australia on September 20th, 2022. His form has been a matter of concern among fans and critics.

Aakash Chopra, the cricketer turned commentator, disapproved of Rohit’s newly aggressive approach. In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, he echoed Sunil Gavaskar’s voice and stated that in the process of aggressive acceleration, Rohit is trying something different, which is eventually getting him dismissed. He said:

“I personally don’t like Rohit Sharma’s ultra-attacking approach. I don’t like it for a reason. He is selling himself short. He is a very good cricketer, but if he tries to hit every ball for a six, he is eventually going to get out.”

Aakash Chopra further suggested Rohit Sharma should spend some time on the crease, get settled in and then fire. He praised the Indian captain, stating that he is an extraordinary player and needs to calm down a bit in the middle.

“If he bats for 40 balls, he will definitely score 75 runs. It’s guaranteed. But is he giving himself that opportunity to bat that long? He is a special player and needs to take some time to get himself in,” he added.

When Rohit Sharma took over as captain from Virat Kohli, he stated that he would alter his approach as an opener. Since then, the skipper has adopted an aggressive approach but has failed to execute it. According to experts, he has lost his natural old self and is trying to do something that is not needed.

India fail to defend 200+ runs in 1st T20I vs Australia

Even after losing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early in the innings, the Indian middle order managed to post a total of 208 on board. They say T20 is a format filled with uncertainties. Rightly so. India were confident of a win. But the Kangaroos did not give up. They came down hard on the entire Indian bowling unit from ball one.

Never once in the whole chase did they look under pressure. Sloppy fielding hurt India further. The Men in Blue dropped three easy catches. Eventually, the Aussies chased down the target of 209 with 4 balls to spare. Australia are currently up by 1-0 in the three-match series.
