Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels Virat Kohli should bat at No. 3 in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season, as he is likely to take up the same role for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup later this year. The Indian Premier League is set to kick off on March 22, while the T20 World Cup will take place in June.
Virat Kohli was brought back to India’s T20 setup for the recent series against Afghanistan, with the World Cup in sight. He played at the No. 3 spot with Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma as the openers. Aakash Chopra feels that Kohli should take up the same role for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Last season, the veteran batter opened the innings for the franchise. He scored 639 runs, including 2 hundred, in the season.
“I feel that Virat Kohli will play at No. 3 in the World Cup. Can he open for RCB as well in IPL 2024? Cameron Green can open the batting, right? What if Virat Kohli decides to do the job that he would do for the national team in the World Cup – bat at No. 3? Is there a possibility?” asked Aakash Chopra during the Dharamsala Test, while speaking to Sports 18.
Cameron Green can go to open the batting: Saba Karim
Former cricketer Saba Karim expressed that Cameron Green can open the batting for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, alongside Faf du Plessis. Green was traded in by them from the Mumbai Indians ahead of the upcoming season. Saba Karim expressed that it things don’t work well, the Bangalore franchise should promote domestic talents. He said.
“RCB have to think about their strategy. If you look at Faf du Plessis’s numbers in SA20 this year, it’s not that great. It can become an issue there. So, keeping all these in mind, I think RCB need their domestic players to step up. They can’t just trust their KGF to do it. So if Virat Kohli bats at No. 3, Cameron Green can go to open the batting. There are chances of promoting domestic talents also up the order. RCB have to work on these things.”
