IND vs ENG: [WATCH] Ben Stokes’ Remarkable Return As He Dismisses Rohit Sharma On The First Ball

In a stunning comeback to bowling after an eight-month hiatus, Ben Stokes showcased his prowess by claiming the wicket of Indian captain Rohit Sharma with his very first delivery on Day 2 of the fifth India vs England Test in Dharamsala on March 8th. Stokes’ remarkable feat came on the heels of a formidable partnership of 271 runs between Rohit and Shubman Gill, both of whom notched centuries. With England in need of a breakthrough, Stokes took charge and astounded England coach Brendon McCullum with his immediate impact.

Employing a length ball angled into Rohit, Stokes executed a subtle movement that outfoxed the Indian skipper, resulting in the dislodging of the off-stump’s bails. McCullum, witnessing the dismissal from the dressing room, couldn’t hide his bewilderment at the turn of events.

Following a brief conversation between James Anderson and the captain after conceding 11 runs post-Lunch, Stokes made the decision to introduce himself into the attack, marking his first bowling stint in eight months.

Stokes’ last bowling appearance dates back to the second Ashes Test at Lord’s in the previous year, after which a knee injury sidelined him and necessitated surgery, keeping him away from bowling. Despite Rohit’s departure at 103, Gill’s subsequent dismissal at 110 by James Anderson showcased the latter’s continued prowess, bringing his total Test wickets to 699. However, India maintained a commanding position with a lead exceeding 130 runs after 78 overs, with Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal still at the crease, their score standing at 352-3.
