India, over the years, has had a wood over Pakistan in World Cup matches. It’s 7-0 currently in favour of Virat Kohli & Co against their arch-rivals in ICC World Cup history. Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq explained why India will continue to maintain their impressive record against Pakistan. The all-rounder, who himself was a part of three World Cup matches, said that India absorbs pressure better as compared to Pakistan.

The Men in Greens was one of the leading team in the 90s and early 2000s when Razzaq played. They had world-class bowlers and batsman who were proven match-winners in every condition. Pakistan dominated India in the 1990s but even then when it came to World Cup matches, India had a better hand. Razzaq who played against India in 1999, 2003 and 2011 recently recalled some of the memories of those matches in an interview with PTI.

“India will continue to maintain that record. Both nations rarely play in the knockout matches of ICC events. They mostly play in league stages and India are favourites. Our players are not able to absorb the pressure that comes with this game,” Razzaq said.

Talking about the time when he was part of India and Pakistan matches he added, “We used to win a lot against India in Sharjah and also beat them in Canada twice. I remember the 1999 world cup match, people and media put pressure on the players even before the match and we wilted. It has stayed like that, unfortunately.”

Abdul Razzaq signed off saying that Pakistan had the best chance to beat India in the 2011 World Cup. Pakistan faced India in the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup at Mohali where India came out as winners and ultimately ended up winning the World Cup.
