Afghanistan whitewash Bangladesh with a thrilling 1 run win in 3rd T20I

Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling 3rd T20I match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Dehradun just finished a few moments ago. It was an amazing performance by Afghan side who scored a competitive total on a tough wicket. Chasing the target, Rahim and Mahmudullah were on course but Rashid Khan again proved his quality.

Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai won the toss and elected to bat first. Mohammad Shahzad and Usman Ghani got off to a steady start with aggressive stroke play from Shahzad. At the end of 6 overs, Afghanistan reached 43 for 0.

After the power play overs, Nazmul Islam got the big wicket of Mohammad Shahzad for 26 runs. Both Shahzad and Ghani added 55 runs for the first wicket. 4 runs later, Usman Ghani was dismissed for 19 runs. Afghanistan captain Stanikzai and experienced Shenwari steadied the innings with 36 runs stand.  Stanikzai scored quick fire 27 off 17 balls.

Shenwari remained not out on 33 off 28 balls. Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 145 for 6 in 20 overs. For Bangladesh, Nazmul Islam and Abu Jayed picked 2 wickets each. Shakib AL Hasan also bowled well giving away 16 runs taking 1 wicket in his 4 overs.

Chasing 146,  Mujeeb Ur Rahman struck by dismissing experienced Tamim Iqbal for 5 runs. Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das played with positive intent before both of batsmen went in quick succession. At the end of 6 overs, Bangladesh struggled scoring 35 for 3.

After the power play overs, Bangladesh captain Shakib AL Hasan was brilliantly caught by Shenwari. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah steadied the innings with a brilliant 84 runs stand for the 5th wicket. With 30 runs required off the last 2 overs, Mushfiqur Rahim smashed 21 runs off Karim Janat over.

With 9 runs required off the final over, Rashid Khan gave away just 7 runs and helped Afghanistan win the match by just 1 run. Bangladesh made 144 for 5.
