After the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) IPL 2023 match in Lucknow, Ahmed Shehzad criticized Gautam Gambhir for acting inappropriately with Virat Kohli.
After RCB won a close game at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, many fans would recall that RCB star player Kohli and LSG coach Gambhir got into an argument.
It’s important to remember that in 2009, after Virat Kohli had scored his first ODI century against Sri Lanka, Gambhir had given Kohli the Man of the Match award.
After IPL 2023 game, Gautam Gambhir was criticized by Ahmed Shehzad for acting inappropriately with Virat Kohli
On the Nadir Ali podcast, Ahmed Shehzad made reference to that and stated:
“I recently watched a clip that someone sent me in which Gautam Gambhir claimed he gave Virat Kohli the Man of the Match award.”
“Man of the Match was either given to him on your own initiative or as retaliation for Virat Kohli’s behavior toward you following the match. It doesn’t operate like this.”
The Pakistani opener went on to emphasize how much Virat Kohli has accomplished in cricket. As he gained the utmost respect from everyone. He went on to say that Gambhir was envious of Kohli.
Gautam Gambhir appears to be having trouble accepting the fact that Virat Kohli has garnered more respect than he ever did in his entire career.
“He finds it difficult to comprehend how quickly Kohli has gained more respect.”
If Sachin Tendulkar had been playing instead of Virat Kohli, Ahmed Shehzad challenges Gautam Gambhir, would he have made the same decision?
Kohli first exchanged insults with LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq during the aforementioned game. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli had an acrimonious argument after the game.
Gautam Gambhir was subsequently asked by Ahmed Shehzad if he would react the same way if Naveen had slammed Sachin Tendulkar.
Ahmed Shehzad continued by presenting a hypothetical situation:
“So, you know, (we) consider Virat as this generation’s king. Just imagine, had Naveen-ul-Haq slammed Sachin Tendulkar in the IPL the way he slammed Virat, would Gambhir reply in the same way.”
“He possesses 75 hundreds. We are cricket fans, so we may not think it is a big accomplishment. No matter their nation or religion, we love players. So, he merits respect,” Shehzad said.
Cricket matches between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have previously been played by Ahmed Shehzad. He is currently working to rejoin the Pakistan cricket team.
