Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi and batter Ahmed Shehzad engaged in a heated argument on television recently. Shehzad has been making headlines off late for his statements over his absence from the Pakistan team. He last played for his country in 2019 in a T20I. Last month, Ahmed criticized the management, and the former coaches for ‘spoiling and hurting’ his career.

On Tuesday, Ahmed Shehzad made an appearance on Pakistan’s television channel Samaa TV, where former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi was also a part of the expert panel. Speaking about Ahmed Shehzad on the show, Afridi claimed that the veteran batter was targeted because of him. He expressed that people thought Afridi gave a lot of chances to Ahmed Shehzad and supported him, which turned out to be negative for the batter.

“Ahmed was targeted because of me because I supported him a lot. I gave him a lot of chances, which turned out to be a negative thing for him when I left the captaincy. People thought he was my favorite. I supported him a lot because I wasn’t finding an opener of his ability in Pakistan. He was performing as well. Obviously, he couldn’t perform in all games but he was targeted because of me as well,” said Shahid Afridi.

Where do I score runs? At my home?: Ahmed Shehzad

Shahid Afridi’s comments surprised Ahmed Shehzad, who expressed that the former cricketer has been like an elder brother to him, but doesn’t know what he means. Further, Afridi tried to explain to Ahmed that he wants the batter to do well in his career. Shahid Afridi said,

“I want you to score runs, and enjoy your life with your wife and kids. Allah has made life beautiful for you.”

Ahmed Shehzad replied, “I keep saying that. I want to score runs, but at least don’t deny me the platforms where I can score. I will ask you when sides in PSL want to pick me, who comes in and says no? You tell me, where do I score runs? At my home?”
