Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has given his vote of confidence to Ajinkya Rahane to lead the test side in Virat Kohli’s absence in Australia. Ever since the news of Virat Kohli leaving the Indian team after the Adelaide test has come up, everyone has just one question in their mind of who should captain the test side in the absence of their skipper. Whether it should be vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane or white ball skipper Rohit Sharma.

The Thought of Rahane having not captained India for the longest while and his poor form in recent times is what is making people think that five-time IPL winner Rohit Sharma should captain the test side. But since Rohit hasn’t really established himself in the test arena yet is another thing that needs to be considered.

‘Captaincy Is Going To Be A Big Challenge For Ajinkya Rahane’ – Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh opined that captaincy is going to be a challenge for Ajinkya Rahane since he hasn’t captained the Indian team for an entire series which is why it will be a beginning of a new inning for the longstanding test deputy of Virat Kohli.

“[Captaincy] definitely a big challenge for Ajinkya Rahane because he hasn’t been captain for an entire series. Also, he’s pretty calm and composed, not so expressive. He’s very different than Virat Kohli. So it will be a new experience for him. Start of a new inning for him. I give him my best wishes and I hope that he will take the team forward and score runs as well,” Harbhajan Singh said on Sports Tak.

He further added that Ajinkya Rahane needs to be natural and need not try to adapt Virat Kohli’s style of captaincy. He wants Rahane to be himself and try to get the best out of his team with his leadership approach.

I hope he takes the team forward like Virat, leading from the front, also scores runs. I would also like to remind Rahane that he doesn’t need to change his style or personality, his game. Looking at a personality like Virat, Rahane might think that he has to adopt some of it to beat Australia. But I don’t think that’s necessary. All Rahane needs to do is be himself and make sure he gets the best out of his team,” he added.
