Vice-captain of Indian test team Ajinkya Rahane spoke about the team’s preparations ahead of the first test in the virtual press conference. He said that for him it is all about helping current captain Virat Kohli win the first test rather than thinking about his own captaincy in the last three Test matches.

Virat Kohli will be leading India in the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide, while Rahane will be leading India in Kohli’s absence in the last three Tests. Ajinkya Rahane said that he believes in staying in the present and focuses on the job at hand. For him, it is important to help Virat Kohli win the first Test and not think much about his captaincy as of now.

“I believe in staying in the present. Right now, Virat is our captain. We think about this Test match and then after that, when he leaves, we will discuss our plans. For me, it’s about giving my best in this Test match and helping Virat out” said Rahane.

The right-hander had a decent outing in the two warm-up games against Australia A. Ajinkya Rahane scored a century in the first innings of the first game and a 38 in the second game. He was dismissed cheaply in the two innings as well when the entire Indian batting line-up succumbed to the swing of the Aussie bowlers.

Prepared Well For Test Series: Ajinkya Rahane

However, Rahane is not too fussed about his ow form and believes that is in good knick before the start of the test series.

“As a player, you go through ups and downs. For me, out of 10 Test matches, I did really well in eight matches. For me, during the lockdown, fitness and diet were the priority. After coming here, it was about getting used to the conditions, the pitches and the bounce. Now, it is all about getting into the match zone and giving my best for the team,” Rahane said.

The likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ian Chappell has backed Ajinkya Rahane to do well as captain of India in Kohli’s absence in the Test series. The four-match series kicks off from December 17 in Adelaide with the pink-ball contest.
