The Indian Premier League has always been one of the most entertaining tournaments in the game of cricket. Fans find time for themselves to be involved with the tournament, as they see stalwarts of various countries playing together. In the tournament history so far, there are quite a few moments, which were inked firmly in the heart of the fans. One of them was Albie Morkel smashing Virat Kohli for 28 runs to seal an incredible victory for CSK.

Morkel, who represented CSK for six years had famously raised his stocks by tormenting the RCB bowling attack in 13th match of the 2012 season. In the game against RCB, the Proteas star had scored 28 runs off Virat Kohli’s 19th over which laid the foundation of a famous win for Dhoni-led CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

All respect to Virat Kohli- Albie Morkel

Being asked to chase down 206 in 20 overs, CSK found themselves in a spot of bother after going 5 wickets down in the 18th over, with still 43 runs to chase. Back then, no one had expected a team to win from that situation, as the require rate is 21.5 per over.

“Look, that’s one of those evenings… once again we were out of the game. RCB had the game in their bag… I had no idea why they bowled Virat. All respect to him, he shouldn’t have bowled that over anyway. We lost a wicket in the last ball of the 18th over,” he said.

40-odd off 2, that’s impossible:

However, what followed the next was something unexpected, as RCB handed the ball to Virat Kohli. Seizing the opportunity against the non-regular bowler, Albie Morkel made the most of the chance by smashing 28 runs off his 6 balls. Speaking of the same, Albie Morkel says that he is still unsure how RCB opted for Kohli.

“The 19th and 20 were left. We needed 42 (43) off 2. I walked in at No. 7. You look at the scoreboard and you’re like ‘oh no, 40-odd off 2, that’s impossible’. You walk in and then you see Virat’s bowling. Then I thought ‘if I can connect a few, maybe we can get close’,” Morkel added.

“I think I edged the 1st one for 4 that just missed my stumps. I edge another one just went over the short third man. Then, I started hitting it straight. We eventually got 28 and ended up winning the match with Bravo hitting a couple in the next over,” Albie Morkel said Rupha Ramani in a YouTube chat for CSK.
