The second Test match between India and Bangladesh kicked off in Dhaka on Thursday, December 22, where the hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian bowlers struck early with Jaydev Unadkat picking his maiden Test wicket after making a comeback to the Indian team.

Umesh Yadav the leader and the senior pacer of the team led the bowling attack by scalping four wickets today. He was able to provide breakthroughs at regular intervals not allowing Bangladesh to create partnerships.

Whenever he has gotten an opportunity, he has delivered for the team and has stood for them. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, it was crucial for him to deliver and fully utilised his opportunity.

Bangladesh was dismissed for 227 with Mominul Haque scoring 84 runs which were the only positive from the host’s batting innings. Senior batters like Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim could not contribute to the team’s innings.

Amongst the Indian bowlers apart from Umesh Yadav, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also picked up four wickets. Jaydev Unadkat also picked up a couple of scalps. At the end of Day 1, India is at 19 runs with both openers, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill will be walking out tomorrow on Day 2 in pursuit of 227 runs in order to gain a lead in the first innings.

India already leads 1-0 in the ongoing test series keeping their hopes alive for the World Test Championship final which is to be played in the Oval, London on 7th June. India needs to win and defeat Bangladesh in the second Test as well as defeat Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy which will be played in India in the month of February.
