Team India spinner Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from the playing XI in the second Test against Bangladesh played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on 22 December 2022.

Yadav had a brilliant outing in the first Test match at Chattorgam, picking up five wickets in the first innings and giving away just 40 runs. He also picked up three wickets in the second innings to finish with eight scalps. The Indian team won the first Test match by 188 runs taking a 1-0 lead.

The conditions at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur looked tricky as it helped the pace bowlers initially. Jaydev Unadkat, who came in place of Kuldeep, is playing a Test match after a gap of 12 years. He troubled Bangladeshi openers Zakir Hossain and Shanto. The domestic veteran eventually picked his maiden Test wicket getting rid of Zakir Hossain with a lovely delivery.

However, fans were disappointed to see Kuldeep facing the axe despite performing to the best of his abilities. Here are some of the reactions:

Kuldeep was the star performer in the 1st Test

Kuldeep was playing his first Test match after Feb 2021. He created a major impact in the first innings getting the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Nurul Hasan, and Taijul Islam on Day 2.

He then dismissed Ebadot Hossain to pick his third five-wicket haul in his Test career. His bowling effort helped India skittle out Bangladesh for a modest total of 150. The left-arm chinamen kept troubling the Bangladeshi batters with his variations.

In the second innings, the spinner was bought late into the attack again and got his first wicket getting rid of Litton Das. He then took two more wickets as India proved too strong for Bangladesh winning the first Test match by 188 runs.

Kuldeep has not been a regular member of the Indian Test team. His performance stood out in the opening encounter against Bangladesh and did not allow experienced batters to score runs against him.

The Indian team would be looking to win the 2nd Test match and gain a step closer in the ICC World Test Championship finals for the second successive year.
