Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who has experience playing for both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), expressed his desire to witness Rohit Sharma make a transition from MI’s blue to CSK’s yellow in the upcoming 2025 season.
Rayudu also endorsed Rohit Sharma’s continued participation in the IPL, suggesting that the Indian captain can play for the next 5-6 years and has the freedom to captain any team of his choice. Rayudu stated, “Rohit Sharma can play IPL for the next 5-6 years. If he wants to captain, the whole world is open for him. He can easily captain wherever he wants.”
Expressing a specific preference, Rayudu articulated his wish for Rohit Sharma to join CSK in 2025 and take on the leadership role if MS Dhoni decides to retire. Rayudu’s statement was, “I want Rohit Sharma to play for CSK in 2025, if MS (Dhoni) retires then Rohit can lead as well.”
Rohit Sharma, during his decade-long association with MI, led the team to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. However, before the IPL 2024 season, MI opted to appoint Hardik Pandya as their captain, replacing the 36-year-old Rohit. At present, CSK is under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who guided them to their fifth IPL title in the previous season.

As preparations for the upcoming IPL season kick-off, MS Dhoni returned to the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, indicating his readiness for the challenge. Despite concerns about his availability, the 42-year-old underwent surgery in Mumbai and has successfully recovered.
However, the timing of Dhoni’s IPL retirement remains uncertain, as he previously hinted at wanting to conclude his career with CSK in a special manner. In contrast, Rohit Sharma recently led the Indian cricket team to a convincing 4-1 series victory over England.
Following the triumph, the Indian skipper shared insights into his retirement plans, stating, “I think if one day if I wake up and feel I’m not good enough, I’m not feeling good enough to play the sport. I’ll just talk it out and let them know about it. But honestly, I feel in the last two or three years my cricket has actually gone up, and I’m playing the best cricket.”
