Kolkata Knight Riders premier overseas recruits Sunil Narine and Andre Russell reached India for IPL 2021. The two of them have been the key players for the franchise over the past few years now and will be important in the upcoming season as well. The IPL 2021 starts on April 9 with the final to be played on May 31. The playoffs and the final will be played at the newly rebuilt Motera stadium. The season will be played across six venues in India.

KKR’s official Twitter handle posted a video of the two Windies players reaching the team hotel in a black SUV. Upon reaching they went through the mandatory COVID protocols and then checked in into their respective rooms.

“The moment you’ve all been waiting for…The 2018 and 2019 MVPs are in the house! #ToofaniFans, excited to get this party started? KKR captioned the video. Russell and Narine also shared messages for their fans, saying that they are closer to them now.

“We are closer to you guys now, so… the games are in India. So whether you guys are watching from home or from the stands, we’ll be representing purple and gold,” referring to the colour of the KKR jersey. Now is the time that we are going to do our best, because we know the bio-bubble. We’re used to this situation. Our mindset is already planned for this,” said Andre Russell.

Meanwhile, Sunil Narine said that whenever you speak of the IPL, you think about India. “Whenever you think about the IPL, you think about India, so it’s great to be back. Hopefully we can have a better season than last year,” he added.

KKR finished fifth in IPL 2021 which was played in a bio-bubble in the UAE. KKR failed to qualify for the play-offs after managing to win just 7 out of their 14 league matches. Hard-hitting Russell had managed to score only 117 runs from his 10 outings. Narine could manage to scalp only 5 wickets in 10 matches.

The Knight Riders will play three matches in Chennai before travelling to Mumbai to play two games. The caravan then moves to Ahmedabad followed by Bangalore where they play five matches to end their league stage.
