The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is facing some patchy issues as the overseas players are pulling themselves out of the tournament because of the ongoing pandemic. Some fans and cricket experts are slamming the Board of Control for Cricket in India for conducting the tournament, IPl 2021, in the crisis. India is currently the worst hit of the second wave of the coronavirus. Daily 300,000 and more cases are coming up. The foreign governments are also tightening the travel schedules. 

Rajasthan Royals’ Andrew Tye recently withdrew himself from the cash-rich IPL on Monday. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s players Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson pulled themselves out of the IPL. Tye told that he feared getting infected with the virus, and he was concerned about his home.

In a statement, Andrew Tye revealed that he was baffled by the question of IPL should be continued in this period when the patients are struggling with medical facilities. However, the Aussie quick admitted that they were completely safe inside the bubble. 

“From a player safety point of view, we’re safe now, but is it going to stay safe? But looking at it from an Indian point of view, how are these companies and franchises spending so much money, and the government, on the IPL when there are people not being able to get accepted into hospital?” he said according to cricket.com.au.

However, Andrew Tye supported the fact that IPL can bring relief to the people in India. Apart from Tye, Aussie duo of Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa, who were a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore have also pulled out of IPL 2021. 

“If sport can continue and be one of those avenues to relieve stress or give a glimmer of hope that the world is OK and there is light at the end of the tunnel, I think it should go ahead. But I know that’s not everyone’s feelings, and I completely respect everyone’s views from all angles,” Andrew Tye added.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals’ ace bowler Ravichandran Ashwin took a break from IPL for an indefinite time. He announced it on Twitter after Delhi’s emphatic Super Over win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

Ashwin tweeted: “I would be taking a break from this year’s IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19, and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals.”
