‘Another Day, Another Century’ – Sachin Tendulkar Applauds Virat Kohli After His 76th International Century

Sachin Tendulkar praises Virat Kohli after India’s star batsman achieves his 29th Test century and 76th overall during the 2nd Test against West Indies. On Friday, Virat Kohli reached his 29th Test century in the final Test against West Indies, ending a nearly five-year wait for an overseas Test ton since his last century on foreign soil in December 2018 in Perth.

Kohli’s remarkable innings brought him his 76th international century, moving him closer to Sachin Tendulkar’s incredible record of 100 international tons.

Acknowledging Kohli’s achievement, Tendulkar took to his official Instagram profile and expressed his admiration for his former teammate, whom Kohli considers his idol. Tendulkar posted a story with the words, “Another day, another century by @virat.kohli. Well played!”

Kohli’s innings played a pivotal role in India’s recovery during the first innings, as the team lost quick wickets following his arrival at the crease. After the dismissals of Rohit Sharma (80) and Ajinkya Rahane (10) in quick succession, Kohli was left to stabilize the innings and adopt a more cautious approach.

Gradually finding his rhythm, the 34-year-old formed an unbeaten 106-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja by the end of the first day, finishing the day on 87 not out. The following day, Kohli and Jadeja extended their partnership by adding 53 more runs, during which Kohli achieved his 29th Test century. Unfortunately, his innings came to an anticlimactic end as he was run out on 121.

This century is Kohli’s second in Test cricket this year, with his brilliant 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad in March being his previous achievement as well. Remarkably, since September 2022, Kohli has scored six centuries across all formats, having had none in the three years prior.

However, his century drought came to an end during a T20I against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, signifying his return to form after a challenging period. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli had a chance to score another century during the first Test, but he was dismissed for 76 in India’s only innings.

The Test resulted in a dominant innings-and-141-run victory for India, and the team is now aiming for a clean sweep against the hosts in Port of Spain.
