County Championship: [WATCH] Will Jacks And Tom Latham’s Brilliant Effort Dismiss Helm

During the County Championship match held on July 21, an impressive display of fielding took place. Will Jacks, fielding at gully, attempted to catch a sharply hit ball but couldn’t hold on to it. However, he reacted quickly by diving to his full length and managed to deflect the ball towards Tom Latham, who was positioned at second slip.

Latham, showing great skill and reflexes, grabbed the catch with one hand just above the ground. However, Tom Helm faced a fast delivery from Tom Lawes, resulting in a thick edge. The ball flew rapidly behind towards Jacks, who moved swiftly to his left to take the catch at shoulder height.

Unfortunately, the ball hit Jacks’ hands with force and bounced out. In a desperate attempt to salvage the catch, Jacks reached out with his right hand while falling off balance.

Though he couldn’t grasp the ball, his fingertips slightly popped it up as he hit the ground. Fortunately, Latham reacted quickly once again, managing to get his hand under the ball just inches above the turf to complete the catch.

Ben Foakes and Dom Sibley (fielding at first slip) were quick to acknowledge the outstanding effort of both fielders, celebrating their exceptional display of fielding. The dismissal left Helm in disbelief at the unfortunate turn of events.

However, Middlesex’s first innings ended at 238 runs, with Helm being the second-to-last wicket to fall. Surrey, batting first, had posted a score of 433. Jaimie Smith’s brilliant innings of 138 was the highlight of Surrey’s batting performance.

In their second innings, Middlesex faced another setback when Pieter Malan was dismissed off the second ball of the first over.
