Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a huge margin of 54 runs in an one-sided encounter at MCA Stadium, Pune in the ongoing season of IPL. Hyderabad failed to chase the target of 178 runs set by KKR. With this comprehensive win, KKR has kept their hopes alive for the playoffs.

While chasing the mammoth total of 178 runs , SRH didn’t get a good start. SRH openers scored just 30 runs in the first 5 overs of the run chase. Williamson played a struggling knock of 9 runs in 17 balls. He was dismissed by Russell. Rahul Tripathi managed to score just 9 runs in 12 balls.

Abhishek Sharma from the other end kept on attacking KKR bowlers. He smashed Sunil Narine all around the park. Abhishek played an impactful knock of 43 runs in 28 balls. Aiden Markaram smashed a few boundaries but couldn’t convert it into a big one. Umesh Yadav took the important wicket of Markaram.

Sunrisers Hyderabad never got the momentum in their run chase. Kolkata Knight Riders chipped in with wickets at regular intervals which broke the back of SRH in the run chase. Andre Russell grabbed 3 crucial wickets. He was the hero with both bat and ball for Kolkata.

Andre Russell finishes in style to take KKR to 177 runs

Earlier in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first. KKR managed to score just 20 runs in the first 4 overs. Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana put the foot on the accelerator. They both added 48 runs in the next 5.3 overs. Umran Malik pulled back things after dismissing both Rahane and Rana.

KKR was struggling at 94/5 in 11.3 overs. They needed a great finish to take them above a par total. Caribbean all rounder Andre Russell played an important knock of 49 runs in 28 balls to help KKR post a total of 177 runs. Russell smashed four huge sixes in his innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the most economical bowler for SRH.
