A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan for failing to appear in a case involving two bounced cheques. The court, under Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman, directed police to report on the execution of the order by March 24. Shakib, who now resides in the United States, has cited life threats as a reason for not returning to Bangladesh after civil unrest last year forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the country. An identical warrant was also issued against Gazi Shahagir Hossain, the managing director of Shakib’s agricultural business.

Once a stalwart of Bangladesh cricket, Shakib played his last Test match against India in Kanpur in late 2024. However, he is currently banned from bowling in all formats due to a suspect action.
