The 37-year-old last played in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, struggling with the bat and scoring only 31 runs in five innings. Due to his poor form, he opted out of the fifth Test in Sydney, where India lost the series 3-1, surrendering the trophy.

Rohit will now look to regain form by playing domestic cricket for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir on January 23, marking his first first-class game since 2015 after a lengthy break from red-ball cricket.
