Pat Cummins made headlines and created a buzz on Twitter with his remarkable performance during the third day of the Ashes 2023 Test match at Headingley.

The Australian captain showcased his bowling prowess, securing his first five-wicket haul in England.

Cummins began his impressive streak by dismissing Ben Duckett and Harry Brook on Thursday. On Friday, he quickly sent shockwaves through the English team by dismissing Joe Root with a wobble seam delivery on just the second ball of the day, causing the edge of his bat to carry to the slips.

Moeen Ali fell into a well-executed short-ball trap, becoming Cummins’ fourth victim. Mark Wood, who had previously dismissed Cummins with a fiery yorker in the first innings, managed to hit him for a six in the 44th over.

However, his luck ran out as he edged a bouncer to mid-wicket, giving Cummins his fifth wicket.

Fans on Twitter were ecstatic, hailing Cummins as a “clutch” player and drawing comparisons between him, India’s Jasprit Bumrah, and South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada. They showered praise on Cummins for his exceptional performance.

Cummins didn’t stop there. He claimed his sixth wicket by dismissing Stuart Broad with a bouncer, further enhancing his spell to an impressive 6/91.

Cummins had shouldered the responsibility of bowling during the challenging overs throughout the match.

After his fifth wicket, he introduced off-spinner Todd Murphy from the other end, hoping to continue the momentum.

The plan nearly succeeded, but Mitchell Starc and Murphy himself dropped Ben Stokes on consecutive balls.

Eventually, Murphy managed to dismiss the English captain, who had scored 80 runs off 108 deliveries. This crucial wicket gave Australia a lead of 26 runs in the first innings.

Cummins’ outstanding record in England added to his growing reputation. Prior to this Test, he had already claimed 43 wickets in England at an impressive average of 22.90 and a strike rate of 45.16.

He had consistently performed well, achieving two four-wicket hauls and three-wicket hauls at every venue he had played at. This recent five-wicket haul further solidified his brilliance on the cricket field.
