Veteran England pacer Stuart Broad continued his domination over David Warner in Test cricket during the third Test of the 2023 Ashes series on Friday, July 7 at Headingley, Leeds. He dismissed the Australian opener in the second successive innings of the match, as Warner failed to make an impact once again in the series.
David Warner walked out to bat along with Usman Khawaja in the test, as Australia took a first-innings lead of 26 runs. While Khawaja hit a few boundaries to get going, Warner did not trouble the scorers much. In the third over, Stuart Broad bowled an off-stump delivery, which angled into the left-hander. Warner got forward to defend the ball but was squared up.
The opener got a thick outside edge on the defence. The ball flew to Zak Crawley, who was at second slip. Crawley made no mistake to send Warner back to the pavilion for just one run from five deliveries. This is the 17th time in Test cricket that Stuart Broad has dismissed David Warner. He got out to the veteran pacer in the first over of the Test match.

England fall short in the first innings despite Ben Stokes’ fifty
England was bowled out for 237 runs in the first innings, handing Australia a lead of 26 runs in the Test match. Ben Stokes slammed 80 runs off 108 deliveries, with six boundaries and five sixes. However, they couldn’t go past Australia’s score as the wickets kept trembling. Mark Wood played a fine cameo of 24 runs off 8 deliveries. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins took six wickets for 91 runs in the innings for Australia.
Earlier in the match, Mitchell Marsh slammed a century, scoring a run-a-ball 118. He smashed seventeen boundaries and four sixes in the innings. Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers for England with five wickets for 34 runs, while Chris Woakes took a three-wicket haul.
