In the first Ashes 2023 Test at Edgbaston on Saturday, Moeen Ali picked up his second wicket of the day by dismissing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, continuing his successful return to Test cricket.
In order to remove Green from the game, Ali bowled the ideal off-spinner’s delivery on the Edgbaston pitch, which is beginning to offer some turn. The all-rounder was enticed by the off-spinner to attempt the big, booming cover drive, and Green’s eyes lit up when he saw the ball thrown up outside off-stump.
Cameron Green prepared to hit a cover drive, but as he did, the ball veered past his inside edge and slammed into the stumps through the space between his bat and pad. Green had the potential to score quickly and harm England, so Moeen Ali was ecstatic, and rightfully so.
Here’s a clip of Dismissal:
On Day 2, Moeen Ali kept England competitive with three Australian batters already sent back to the hut after the first session of Day 2, England appeared to be in complete control.
The second session, however, saw Travis Head launch his counterattack and quickly score runs. As Head played his shots and Australia appeared ready to take control of the session, Usman Khawaja continued to hold down the fort from one end.
However, Moeen Ali dismissed Head shortly after he reached his fifty-first run, and Cameron Green’s wicket is also a significant one for England to control the visitors’ rate of run-scoring.
Usman Khawaja has found a great ally in Alex Carey and has just completed a sensational first Test century on English soil at the time of writing.
The wicketkeeper has also started to score frequently, advancing Australia’s lead. The ideal scenario for England on Day 2 is to take at least one more wicket before play concludes.
